Hi! I’m Shelly, and I want to share the Loess Hills with you.
Why? Because there’s such beauty in the Loess Hills region of western Iowa, where I live and create photographs. Right now, I’m working on a project that shines a light on overlooked treasures: the summer wildflowers, grasses and weeds that dress the ditches of our country roads. And when I say “shine a light” on them, I mean it – I’m shooting each plant in a studio setting with a single light, truly putting a spotlight on its individual charm away from the distractions of gravel dust, competing plants, and an astonishing variety of bugs.
Check back here often to see this special view of Iowa’s native blooms – my newest photographs will be posted once or twice a week, as I get them finished. And I’d love to hear your questions and thoughts in the comments section!
